Decatur County Memorial Hospital proudly announces the addition of board-certified Melissa Yelanich, MD, to the Family Medicine team at Decatur County Family Medicine, located in the new Rehabilitation & Medical Offices building. Dr. Yelanich received her Medical Degree from the University of Carabobo, and she continued her medical training and completed her Family Medicine residency at Riverside County Regional Medical Center, California.
Before moving to Indiana, Dr. Yelanich dedicated her time to practicing medicine in San Diego, CA. Though she enjoyed experiencing life in southern California, she and her family strongly desired to move to the Midwest. Dr. Yelanich said, “I want to raise my children here in the Midwest, where my family and I felt we share similar lifestyles. There is a strong sense of community here that is so welcoming.”
A few days after relocating to the region, Dr. Yelanich and her family experienced their first snowfall and Indiana’s last dusting in mid-March this year. Despite the snow, the family spent time outside on a walk together with their dog. Dr. Yelanich said, “It’s so beautiful here and we’re looking forward to taking more hikes and walks at local parks and forests, experiencing everything Indiana has to offer.”
Dr. Yelanich’s practice is on the second floor of the new Rehabilitation & Medical Offices building in the Decatur County Family Medicine practice. Executive Director of Physician Practices and Support Services Amy Wickens said, “We are thrilled that Dr. Yelanich has joined DCMH and that she will begin seeing patients in our new building. The opening of the building and bringing Dr. Yelanich to DCMH will enhance our ability to serve our patients.”
