Decatur County Memorial Hospital welcomes Danny Marcum to the Emergency Medical Services team as Manager. Coming from Shelby County, Danny’s career at the Shelbyville Fire Department spanned over twenty-three years, during which he served as a deputy chief, firefighter paramedic, and training officer. His involvement with swift water rescue and other specialty teams is a testament to his relentless commitment to public safety.

As Danny contemplated his next step, his extensive experience in rural medicine inspired him to join a team that continues to impact this area. He recognizes the greater responsibility placed on the DCMH team compared to larger urban settings and is thrilled to support their efforts. He knows the community well, as he and his wife have spent many years in the county, and looks forward to getting to know everyone better. Danny has been married to his high school sweetheart for 27 years and has two boys, ages 23 and 20.

Danny looks forward to working with a different type of service at DCMH – a hospital-based EMS service, which is very different from a fire-based EMS service, according to Marcum. Danny mentioned that he could tell there were a lot of great opportunities coming their way and said, “I am excited to get to know and work with the DCMH team. I also look forward to partnering with other community services, organizations, and leaders.”

He is passionate about helping people within the community, volunteering, and advocating for public safety. Marcum’s future at DCMH is bright. He brings extensive experience and knowledge for DCMH Emergency Medical Services. In the event of an emergency, call 911.
