DESCRIPTION:Diabetes can be controlled and the progression of complications delayed with an individual treatment program that includes diet\, exercise\, and/or medication. \nDiabetes classes offered at Decatur County Memorial Hospital are designed to teach the person with diabetes and his/her family more about the disease and how to implement lifestyle changes to avoid complications. A Registered Dietitian and Pharmacist teach sessions each quarter that follow curriculum standards of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES) Diabetes Education Accreditation Program (DEAP). \n\n\n\n\nClass Topics Include: \n\nOverview of diabetes\nHealthy eating with a focus on: Meal planning\, portion control\, food and nutrient groups\, restaurant eating\, carbohydrate counting\, and much more!\nRole of exercise in treatment\nMedications available to treat diabetes\nBlood glucose testing and monitoring\nWays to reduce risks for short and long term complications\nProblem solving and goal setting\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEach session consists of a series of three – two hour classes and registration is required to attend the classes. Classes are covered by most insurance companies. Please call your insurance company for coverage details. \n\n\n\n\nTo register or for more information\, call 812-663-1341. You must register in order to participate in the class. SUMMARY:2024 Prenatal / Breastfeeding Class
DESCRIPTION:Decatur County Memorial Hospital offers Prenatal Education and Breastfeeding classes which are taught by a trained instructor. Expectant mothers and her coach will feel prepared and confident about their upcoming delivery and adjusting to life with a newborn. \nSpecial emphasis is on relaxation and breathing techniques during labor. The classes are free for our patients and should be taken in the third trimester of pregnancy. \nCall the Women’s Center at (812) 663-1240 to register or go to dcmh.net/health-services/womens-services/ob-maternity/.
