Myla Speer is the August 2026 Decatur County Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Services Patient of the Month.

Myla was nominated by her team of therapists: Olivia Wilmer (Speech Therapy), Ladine Lipinski (Occupational Therapy), Jamie Hauswald (Physical Therapy), and Carissa Wilson (Physical Therapy).

Myla underwent major brain surgery earlier this year in Boston. Following her surgery, her family was looking for outpatient therapy programs close to home to help Myla continue her therapies. From there, they chose DCMH Rehabilitation Services.

She has multiple disciplines of therapy several days a week to help aid in her recovery. In speech therapy, Myla has made improvements in comprehension and conversation skills, articulation of the “L” sound, and sequencing tasks and events.

In physical therapy, Myla has improved her walking and running mechanics, allowing her to travel farther distances without losing balance. During occupational therapy, she has been working on using her left arm and becoming more aware of her surroundings on her left side.

Each day, Myla continues to get stronger and can participate in activities she enjoys, including softball and cheerleading. Myla’s dedication, hard work, and perseverance through it all is remarkable and inspiring.
