The Hospital Foundation of Decatur County is grateful to recognize German American Bank for its continued support of local cancer patients through a special donation to the Cancer Care Department at Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH).
This year, German American Bank Financial Center Manager Katie Sparks chose to celebrate her birthday by giving back to the community in a meaningful way. Instead of gifts, Katie invited her team members to help create comfort bags for cancer patients receiving treatment at DCMH.
Throughout the month, team members generously donated items designed to provide comfort and encouragement during treatment. The bags included totes, cozy blankets, hand lotion, lip balm, eye masks, hot and cold packs, fuzzy socks, and notebooks.
The German American Bank team spent time assembling comfort bags, creating a meaningful opportunity to support local patients and celebrate Katie’s birthday. At the end of the day, the team still surprised Katie with a birthday cake to celebrate the occasion.
Acts of generosity like this reflect the compassion and community spirit that continue to make a difference for local patients and families. Donations such as these help provide comfort and support to individuals receiving cancer care close to home.
In addition to donating the comfort bags, German American Bank has also become a sponsor of the Foundation’s newest community event, Walk with Care, benefiting the Cancer Care Fund. Funds raised through the event will help local cancer patients by providing resources, comfort items, and encouragement throughout treatment.
Join Us for Walk with Care
The Hospital Foundation of Decatur County invites community members to join us for Walk with Care as we come together to honor cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and loved ones while supporting cancer care services in our community.
Whether you walk in support of a loved one, in memory of someone special, or to make a difference, every step helps provide hope and encouragement for local patients and families.
Walk with Care will be held on July 11, 2026, at the DCMH Walking Trail. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the walk taking place from 9 – 11 a.m. The morning will also include a special commemorative tribute, treats and refreshments, and opportunities for the community to come together in support of local cancer care.
